The Question: If i buy an 'unlocked' CDMA 1900 MHZ phone off of say, e-bay will cricket activate it? will it work? or just the Voice and text? Additionally, are alltell and cricket the same company, are their phones compatable? :help:

yeah sorry I'm a Noob and I tried so hard to read the forums to find the answer but you guys speak in code that I dont understand .. what is esn anyway?

Thanks so much! and please don't be too mean, I know that i'm a N00b.

you will need to get cricket's PRL file onto the phone. it will require a lot of work to get anything besides voice and text working on the phone, and most likely you won't be able to get it to work. but if you enjoy playing around with that stuff have at it, no one's gonna stop you. alltel and cricket are not the same company. esn=electronic serial nuraber, baiscally one of a few nurabers that identifies your phone to the network.

your voicemail will work as thats something on the network that doesn't depent on the phone. the features you may have problems with are things like multimedia messaing (pic. messaging) and wireless internet.

what phone do you plan on getting? it would be wise to post here if you're not sure if its the right kind, as cricket's network is CDMA, and if you mistakenly buy an unlocked GSM phone, then you'll be out of luck.

If you're wanting to take advantage of all Cricket services. You would need to get an Moto v3c and have it flashed with the monster pack that's out there for it.

although you will find alot by searching, the main things involved are getting a usb cable to hook the phone to the computer, and a program to "flash" the new cricket software on the phone.

okay, sounRAB like something I may be able to do. Thanks for your help, are there people out there who do this kind of thing for $$ if so, how do I find them?

yes people make a living doing this and some of us do it for hobby. I am a phone geek but don't know nearly as much as alot of people on here. When you see something you don't know just take the time to use the search function it is your best utility
