N-400 (naturalization eligibility) , plz help clarifying the 3 months rule ?!?

i have been a permanent resident in the U.S for 4 years now and i would like to go through the naturalization to attain the passport , i had to travel for business for about 5 months , so on returning to the U.S does the 3 month rule of which i have to stay for 3 months straight before applying the N-400 apply to me or not ? please someone clarify that for me , Truly appreciate the help thank you to all that answer
