Mytouch 3G Slide defected. Help!!!!

This mytouch slide is brand new out of the box and it is acting very weird. It wont ever load past the homescreen and when the homescreen does come up and i slide it down, the phone reboots. I cant return the phone because it was a gift and want to try to figure it out and fix it. I include a video below of how the phone acts.

What about a manufacturer exchange, who purchased it doesn't matter as long as (it's been within a year most likely ) and It's not from physical damage ....
 
You might try a factory reset before anything else.

1.Turn the power off. If your HTC myTouch 3G Slide is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
2.Hold the Volume Down button
3.Press and release the Power button
4.You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
5.Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
6.Press and release the Power button
7.Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC myTouch 3G Slide. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.
 
Hmm just watched the video, there is some damage on it isn't there? Maybe you can get into recovery and do a factory reset... unfortunately I don't know how to do that on that particular phone ...
 
No it isn't damaged at all. That scratch like mark on the bottom left actually the factory screen plastic still on the phone. Never took it off. I will try the factory reset and get back to you guys. Thanks for the replies guys.
 
Just followed the factory reset instructions grant suggested and completed the reset and the home screen came on. I then slide down and the screen went straight to the mytouch logo again. And this time, i got an error screen and i took a pic which is below.
 
Does it not have a sim card in it? I'd try putting one in there if it doesn't, even though that shouldn't cause that error. What happens after hitting force close?
 
This is the error i got after the 7th time doing the reset. Is there any way to reinstall the OS on the phone like it is on the iphone?
 
Im new to android and have been using an iphone since 1g and currently have a 4g. I want to get this phone fixed for my mother. How do i go about finding and installing the os rom? How hard is it?
 
Installing it is relatively easy, finding it might be more difficult, just search official mytouch 3g slide rom version (not sure what that phone is on, 1.6 or 2.1 or what)
 
Hmmm might be easier to find tomorrow since apparently a new update is going out today or tomorrow, those usually get put up quick for developers. Also make sure you don't fond a rooted rom!
