It seems we're a step closer to figuring out the mystery behind the "Google barge" floating near San Francisco.
Citing "multiple sources," local CBS affiliate KPIX reports the barge will boast a party deck and showrooms to market Google Glass and other gadgets.
"They are probably half data center and half retail because the bottoms are wide open," says Patrick O'Hara, a contractor with Yerba Buena Builders, whose business is across the street from Pier 1 on Treasure Island, where the barge is moored.
O'Hara says that builders cut open the bottom layer of containers to create an open floor plan, speculating it may be for Google to bring customers into a show room.
The building contractor said the project has been going on for more than a year, noting that the insides have been packed with electronics that were indistinguishable from his vantage point.
Much of the preparation work on the shipping containers and staircases is being done across the street in a parking lot in plain view in front of hangar No. 3 on Treasure Island.
But if you're thinking this means a shot at boarding the barge, don't get your hopes up. It will be invitation only.

The four-story barge was first discovered earlier this week, prompting a visit from the U.S. Coast Guard. However, the agency would not reveal any details about the barge.
A second barge has also been spotted in Portland, Maine. The contents of its cargo remain unknown.
Google was not immediately available for comment.
