YES,

I can be very clever at times... I saw lower back and I have been there and ended up with a universal fusion L4-L5-S-1; two roRAB 6 scews and 2 cages.

Then is was cervical and I thought it was the area of the "netherlanRAB" so to speak.LOL. I was not thinking of the upper back at all..

Can anyone tell me of their experience with having a mylogram in the lower lurabar. They are looking at both my lurabar area and my cervical area. They said they are looking for pressure on my spinal cord. Is the procedure painful and can they tell much from this type of CT scan.

I would appreciate any feedback. I am new to the boarRAB and could really use some support and info. thanks:)

:D:D:D Now that I have had my chuckle for the day I will respond to the post.

I have had a mylegram and admit I was scared, scared, and a big chicken. It really was not that bad in the slightest. They have you gown up and lay on a stretcher, put bedatine on your back, start an IV in your hand, inject dye in your back, and they rotate the table around while you are on your tummy. They take a few pictures then have you move to a guerney to keep you lying flat and take you for a CT scan. After the CT scan, they moved me into a room and had me lay flat for 2 hours then sent me home for the day with orders to remain in bed flat for the next 36 hours.

The key to this procedure is listening to your doctors and keeping flat for awhile after the procedure. I did have some increased pain for a few days but overall the procedure was simple.

When I left they gave me a cd with the picture of the entire length of the spinal column.

They are not all that bad; it is a little uncomfortable but not the worst thing that can happen to you...

Mine was attempted, X2 and they were never able to get the job done... As far as the female part of what you asked for I do not know what to say as I am a guy.

It is a little uncomfortable - and make sure that someone comes with you as the hospital that I had it done would not let me drive home and I spent 4 hours in the hospital bed no choice as some people have extreme headaches
after the dye is injected and I was not allowed to drive
home.

Trust me; there are a lot of worse things than the myelogram.

I wish you the best,

I had my Myelogram done on April last year. I was asked to lie on my right side and 15ml dye was injected to the spinal cord. I felt alot of concordance pain when the injection was about to finish. It is strange that I had more pain on Myelogram than my discogram while most people just feel the opposite.

I had my mylogram 3 days after my first two level fusion, so I can't give you a honest account on the pain. It was horrible for me but I had many complications, they were doing the mylogram because they thought I had meninghitis, I was very ill.

I wish you luck, I would venture to say that the ones that have told you it is ok are not telling stories. It's not a bad test and it gives them tons of info that is very important to know.

Please let us know how things go.

God Bless

Carol

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. I go in this Thursday for the mylogram. I am really ready to find out what is going on since in the last week the pain has progressed to having "Charlie Horse" spasms from my hip to my ankles (several times day) and my leg and toes are going nurab!

Any prayers would be appreciated.

Thanks for the replies and the "female" part did give me a smile. Thanks for the encouragement!

Hi Murph,
Keep us posted. I'm glad you are having it done and I hope it will give you some answers. I hear you about the "Charlie Horses".....one of the many faces of nerve pain! I've never had a myleogram so good luck.

Deb

Having a mylegram really isn't that big of a deal. It was a little more difficult for me my first time because they had to go through my fused spine and hardware which took quite a while. The sound of the needle trying to get through numerous times through the fusion will always stay in my mind. What I did was focus on an object in the room and put my mind someplace else. It was a piece of cake after that.

Good luck with the myelogram. I have had at least 6 of these done so just do what they tell you do after the test. I just wanted you to know that prayers and well wishes are with you.

I only had the beginnings of one. I was scared but if it had been completed I think it would have been ok. I was placed on my stomach and a hard pillow was placed under the stomach. That was the problem. I should have been on my side. I was complaining about feeling the pulse in my abdomin and it was hurting. The needle was inserted. No pain. The radiologist hit a nerve. Alot of pain but it went away. The linocaine was injected. That was fine and I was watching the moniter because it was interesting. The next thing I remeraber was the radiologist yelling to stay with her and answer her, pulling out of the needles, throwing me on my side and a bunch of nurses and another doctor running in. I fainted, my bp and pulse dropped so the dr pulled out the needle. They thought maybe it was fear or the position I was in. The suggested I have it done under sedation in the hospital and sent me home after I was told no concerns about getting a spinal headache. Wrong....the next day everytime I stood up I had a headache like no other. I finally called her two days later, and the doctor said she didn't think I would get a headache as she had only poked me once, so to lay down all weekend and if it got worse to go to the hospital for a blood patch. It didnt because I stayed down. I learned later from a friend who is a critical care nurse that I should have stayed down with my head slightly elevated.
Instead of having another mylogram done, I had a catscan done. When I met with the surgeon to discuss the laminectomy I am going to have I told him what happened because I am concerned about being on my stomach. He then felt my aorta and said it was bigger than he expected for my age. Yesterday I had an ultrasound done to see if I am ok.
Anyway, I do think the mylogram would have been ok without the drama. It is interesting to watch and it wasn't painful until things went south for me. I bet you will do just fine and it is a good tool. I can't have MRIs
