MyFaves Question

Not to burst anyone's bubble here.
But, I did the whole wipe the handheld thing a week ago and it started happening all over again. i don't know if it's T-Mo's software issue or what.
But i got my replacement phone and so far so good, no problems. Keeping my fingers crossed. Watch, now ill be complaining 2morow that it doesn't work again...lol!!

Thanks everyone for all your input!!

hey guys, you do know that you can reload your software OS in your phone right? It is pretty simple. I actually do not call tech support anymore cause of this site. Most times this site actually already has my anwser just by doing a quick search.

This is one link that i have used twice. I don't have myfavs cause I am using a 7105t. But any issue I have had, a reload of the OS has always fixed the problem

Of course If you do the wipe of the OS, make sure that you do a backup, and of course, Iam not responsible for your phone, so use it at your own risk.

I've ran into a similar issue. A couple of the myfaves icons were appearing blank with no myfaves numbers set. the issue appears to be related to the arangement of the icons, it seems to be resolved by clicking my 8100 trackball while on a myfave then menu button then change order till something appeas in the empty spot. Don't know if that helps.

I currently am having the same troubles. They have me on ticket and I do not wish to wait the 3 days for them to lead me through the same steps already listed here. I backed up my phone and now currently have the wipe going.

my questions are: once it is finished will my phone be back at factory settings it came with (including the older OS, or will it stay at the 4.x upgrade) will all software I installed be gone? etc.

**Update**

I wiped my 8100, then turned the reciever back on. It recieved the browser book and the fav settings. I then went and restored my backed up data and everything is running as it should.

I work in retail, and a lot of times I do the returns for my store. I've just seen some really nasty phones get returned. I am always amazed at what people do to phones in 2 weeks.

The problem we've had (on my fiance's phone) is it switched the positioning of 2 of the people in his my fave's circle by itself and he can't get it to switch back. Does anyone have a fix for this before I waste precious minutes on the phone with tmobile? lol

Same kind of problem I mentioned above. T-mo's no help . They wouldn't(couldn't) uninstall-reinstall myfaves for me. I messed with the positions of the faves for a while and eventually they went back to normal. Hope there's a restore or reinstall option out there somewhere tho?

Good stuff SomikAMD. I had a similar problem. One of my myfaves icons completely disappeared after attempting to add a myfave to an empty slot. I called Tmo and there answer was to send the phone back. I tried your little trick and it appears to be in good shape. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Thanks for your help.

hmm, I just got my 8100 pearl unlocked
I have service with Tmobile I did a myfaves plan and I am getting conflicting information from the reps. some are saying it wont work because its not a TMOBILE branded phone and some are saying since I added my MYFAVES contacts via their website I am not going to have a problem it will work fine.

Does anyone know the real answer

Wow...This sight is great! I just left Nextel (7100i) and got a T-Mobile 8100 Pearl 3 days ago. I got the Myfavs empty circle today, and it was driving me crazy. It being easter I didnt want to bother a CSR, the solution posted by SomikAMD did the trick!

It should work since no matter what carrier's software you run for the Pearl the MyFaves is embedded (I'm running Telestra's 4.2.1.66 and myFaves works fine). The answers you are getting are both correct to some extent.

If it's not a T-Mobile branded Pearl, then T-Mobile cannot guarantee that the MyFaves service will work on the phone, because it isn't their phone. The only way they can say 100% that it should work is on an approved MyFaves TMobile phone and that's for liablity reasons I suppose. The interface may or may not work...who knows, but that brings me to the other piece of info they gave out.

Since you added your contacts on the website, so long as when you click on Manage MyFaves on MyT-Mobile and see your 5 people there, the calling to the current contacts will be unlimited. In reality the MyFaves service only affects billing causing the numbers that are set up to be unlimited. The nifty interface for the shortcuts are nice but not needed - It's simply a way to brand the service to T-Mobile and differentiate it from the other carriers that offer unlimited calling to people.

So while the info seems conflicting - It's actual sorta correct

In general most MyFaves issues can be fixed with the following instructions (with the exception of the call log issue...)

1. Back up your handheld - This doesn't back up any of the MyFaves settings since it's not a BB DB and because the MyFaves info is stored on a server, not the phone.

2. Wipe your handheld

3. Restore your handheld - Once you are reregistered with the MyFaves server you will get a text message that your MyFaves was either activated or Refreshed - you MUST open this message for the service to be reactivated. Now the only thing left is to set your icons back up. If you didn't originally set up custom ringer for the specific contact in the address book, you'll have to set up the customer ringer again as well.

Your MyFaves service should work correctly now. This doesn't mean that it won't happen again - It prolly will, there is some sorta jumble between the myFaves stuff and the BB software. However, it is a simple fix.

Hope this helps!
