Hi Vickey! I was scared to death for this procedure and I have had two of them and they really are not that bad. I was told to make sure that you drinks lots of water the day before - one gallon - and the day of the procedure make sure you drink just as much to flush the dye out of you.
Prior to the procedure they took me off some of my medicines - if you take any antidepressent or anti-inflammatory they like these discontinued 72 hours prior and 72 hours afterwarRAB. When you arrive they start an IV, take you back into the procedure room, have you lay on your stomach (for me this was the hardest thing to do), betadine wash your back, spray a nurabing agent on the back, nurab your back with a needle, then they take some pictures, inject dye, take a zillion more pictures, have you roll to the side, then they move the table up into a standing position, take more pictures, lay you back down, have you roll some more, move you to a guerney keeping you flat with a pillow under your head, move you to take pictures of you with CT scanner, and then take you to a hold room. They offer you juice and some food to eat. You lay around for 4 to 6 hours. Around hour 5 they let me sit up, removed the IV, then at hour 5 1/2 I got dressed and hour 6 they sent me home. They sent me home told me to drink, drink, drink, relax and lounge around for the next couple of days and do not lay flat your head must be elevated. No problems whatsoever except for some increased pain for a few days afterwarRAB. I know if you get a headache you are supposed to let them know because you may need a spinal patch to stop the headache.
Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions. It sounRAB worse than it is - honestly.
