my yamaha rx v545 is not outputting via HDMI, am i doing something wrong?

I had the same problem - these receivers can usually only upconvert from regular AV connections - 1 yellow vidoe cable. They typically do not upconvert from the component inputs.
 
i am running my xbox 360 INTO the receiver via component cables...the audio from the 360 is INPUT into the receiver via TOSLINK. Im running an HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV.

I get sound just fine - but i get no video.

The video from my DISH box works just fine - it is input via HDMI.


This receiver says it can upconvert - so why is it not outputting EVERYTHING via hdmi output???
there are no best answers here...i did finally figure it out though.

The xbox 360 setting was set to output 1080p quality through a component cable. I changed this to 720p, and everything works just fine.
