My xbox headset no longer registers my voice, suggestions to fix it?

I'm on my third headset so it is not a mediocre stock one, but now the mic no longer registers my voice when I speak. I can hear others but it only works occasionally when I twist or bend the wire of the mic. Any suggestions for how to fix my mic without having to purchase a new one would be much appreciated,
