My Xbox 360's picture started acting weird with vertical static lines and faded colors.?

I've had my console for a little over a year now and about a week ago it started once in a while doing what I described above (vertical static lines or other patterns and faded colors) and then it started doing it more and more frequently until it would just automatically be like that when I turned the console on. I've tried various things like unplugging the HDMI cable for a little bit and then when I plug it in it's gone for a while but then it inevitably comes back. So I tried using my component HD cable and now everything seems to be fine. Is this a problem with the actual console or just the HDMI cable?

Also, do Nexflix view instant on my Xbox and on my instant queue where is shows all the movies I've put on there, when I'm using my component HD cable it doesn't show the movie cover like it does when I have my HDMI cable hooked up. What would cause that?
