i thought it was fungus so i put some melafix in my tank but it doesn't seem to be helping. . . now it's got like a brown spot on it's side. wat is it and how do i get rid of it?

hey fatty k, i know your answer!

Well, here is where you went wrong. Melafix, is a very good medicine! But in your case, isnt the right one to use to fix fungus issues...

My advice would be for you to go to petsmart (or your local fish store) and buy a bottle called "pimafix" or a tablet box of "Fungus Clear" by Jungle labs. The Second one is about 3.24 at walmart!

Melafix is usually used only for ripped fins and fin rot! So, only use this if you only see nipped, bitten, or ripped fins!

Dont worry, i think everything will be allright.

Make sure you do a 25% water change the day after you put chemicals in your water though! Im assuming your lyretail fish is a molly? (or a livebearer) so i would advise to add some aquarium salt. (sold at local fish store)

Good luck!

Sounds like Columnaris which is caused by Flexibacter bacteria. This needs to be treated as quickly as possible and no, Melafix won't fix this. There are however, other things you can try for Columnaris.

Check out the link.
