On some TVs, the number of times the power light blinks during a failure is a coded indicator of the nature of the trouble. Check the troubleshooting section of your owner's guide for a list of "blinking light" codes, or you might find them with an on-line search.
What's happening in general is that the TV has shut itself down due to some type of fault, probably power supply trouble, rather than leave itself fully powered up and vulnerable to worse damage.
