My Tv is acting weird and non stop scanning channels..Is it broken?

I came home from work yesterday and my tv turned itself on and was being weird. I have a rca 48in old style big tv and it is connected to a cable box dvr. It put itself on scan and just scans the channels showing snow. It was going from 1-105 then 1-80 then 1-5 and wont stop. It says searching channels scan CATV. now my tv is supposed to be on chanel 3 so that i can see the stations from my cable box. It will not let me use the remote, it will not let me stop the scan and it will not let me change the channel. Last night I unplugged the tv itself and the cable box going to the tv and left it unplugged all night. When i got up today i plugged it back in and the tv let me change channels then it started this weird scan again. Is my tv broken? Could it have something to do with the cable company? I have never had this happen before and I dont know what to do. I cant live without tv!! Someone Please Help!!!!!!!
