It could go out today or next week, there is no way any one can honestly answer that for you. I would drive it only as needed.

drive in the meantime? I just got a new transmission this past summer, and for whatever reason, it went bad yet again, something to do with the fluids being drained because parts were damaged involving it, and it just has trouble switching gears, it only stays in first gear, which puts more strain on the engine, driving up the RPM's, etc.

They will work on it in about a week, but in the meantime I drove it home because of the holidays and don't want to just leave it there. They said it was "ok" to drive it back home, and it DOES still drive. They just said, don't drive it TOO far so you don't do more damage to it.

However, is it safe to drive really short distances,..or should I really be driving it as less as possible?
I have a warantee on it, so I don't care either way really if it dies completely or not.
I'm just wayyyyy too reliant on my car and need to at least drive it to the post office or whatever.

Yeah you shouldn't drive it at all because you could get stuck in the middle of nowhere, then what. It may be more than the trans acting up, get a 2nd opinion.

I wouldn't drive it at all. The side of the road is no place for the holidays. Why don't you rent a cheap car for a few days and just play it safe?

By the way, if you drive your car in that condition and a total breakdown causes an accident, you may be found responsible for the damages.
