My Toyota 4Runner died going uphill on the highway, I had just gotten on and

seemed slow. Wont start back up? It has had a check engine light on for a few weeks now and I took it in to get an oil change and see what was wrong and they said it was the CAT CONVERTER. I did not fix it as I recently had a rebuilt one put in and still under warrantee. The truck has been making a spuddering sound lately when I drive it, only when giving it gas, but never died. I need to figure this out ASAP, as the truck is still on the highway!!
 
Fuel vapor leak....simple. find and fix the leak and you will be rolling again..In some cars it's as simple as a new gas cap.. or as hard as a Jeep Grand Cherokee with having to remove the front bumper to get at the charcoal filter
 
Oh boy. The check engine light comes on when you have an engine management issue, which means the engine is not running correctly. Many times, the computer recognizes a problem and responds by going into limp mode which effectively errs on running rich in lieu of lean. Lean fuel mixture can burn up valves and other expensive parts. Running rich simply causes back gas mileage. Oh, and yes, it does cause premature failure of catylitic converters as they are forced to work so hard to burn up all the unused fuel from the rich mixture. They do this hard work til they clog up, then the exhaust backs up and the car sputters, runs poor, especially at highway speed, and eventually dies as not enough exhaust can be pushed out to keep the engine running.

So, you will need to fix the engine management issue, then likely replace the plugged cat and you will be back on the highway, but running.
 
well if ur cat is bad then ur o2 sensor will read that it running lean and will cause the truck to act like its out of gas or it will stall the motor out.had this problem with me jeep,but y did u put a rebuilt cat on there instead of just buying a new one.u probaly have done further damage because u ignored the check eingine light,they dont come just for the fun of it.but good luck with that.have it towed and and tooken to a shop where they can run a diagnostics test on it.good luck
