My tooth hurts to have anything cold or breathe air in it?

It's the worst feeling and sometimes when I eat sweets, it's like breathing in air to the tooth and it's a bad feeling. It can't be a cavity cause I've had this for atleast a year thinking it'd go away. The doctors would have noticed if it was a cavity.
What do you think it is?
