is there anything we can do? This was done on Sunday morning - it is now Tuesday mid-day. We have found 9 dead fish, but would like to save some of them.

The only viable option is to remove the fish immediately into a separate container with dechlorinated water. If you have a spare pond or aquarium filter then I would start this up as well. Then you will have to physically drain the pond and leave it to soak with some fresh water overnight.

When you are ready to start re-stocking the pond, test the water for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Also refrain from feeding the fish for a few days to avoid any potential complications with the water quality.

In the future, make sure that you keep any strong chemicals such as algaecides under lock and key.

Do you have anywhere else to put the fish? If not, do a large water change and replace it with clean dechlorinated water that is the same temperature as the pond. This will remove a percentage of it and dilute the remainder.

Get a plastic pool the ones meant for kids. They are cheap and presuming you dont want to buy a separate aquarium. Let the remaining fishes in it with fresh clean water. Replace them in the pond when you get the chemicals out and have refilled it with clean water. It really works.
