My SONY VAIO won't "boot"?

ok. I know nothing about old "notebooks" I call it a laptop, but on the bottom it says SONY VAIO Notebook MODEL PCG623L. So, i turn the computer on. And It asks if I want to "start normally, safe mode, or last network that worked" to start it. So, I tried using all of them and all of them gave me the same result. After I pick one of those, it asks to check my disk. I've tried having it checked and skipping it; same result. After that's FINALLY finished, it goes to a black screen with the word SONY in the middle. I've tried letting it sit there, for a long time- to see if it was just taking a long time to load. One time I let it sit there for two days! Nothing! I really need help to start it.
