need a lawyer? My son's father is not a horrible man, however has been a horrible father. He pays child support only because it is automatically deducted from his paycheck. He just lost his job, and instead of trying to find a new one he has decided to give up his parental rights to avoid paying the $40.00 a week. I am ok with this, for many reasons. I did not have a father growing up and never felt like I missed out. I also have been dating someone for quite a while who has been an excellent father figure for my son and will continue to do so. I just want to know how to proceed. Do I need to hire an attorney or is this something that I can do myself through the court system on my own?
