dg - it's good that he doesn't remember. they must have given him versed or valium or some other benzodiazepine at first, because they're great for creating temporary amnesia and shit.

honestly, in the long run it's too bad his resistance of such useful meds is as high as it is. your best is to hope that he either grows out of it when he hits puberty or decides to be a CIA operative (you know, so all the weird shit his captors inject into him don't make him talk once he's been held prisoner)...

give him time. it's PROBABLY that he's still young enough to where his liver is naturally hyperactive. the way both opiates (or opioid analogs such as demerol) and benzodiazepines reduce in the liver is kind of a two-step process; the first step is where the brain reactivity occurs and the second step is when the metabolytes start getting voided. if he's just metabolizing them at the speed of light, i assure you it will stop when his pituitary turns on
