my son and his anxiety

My son is 12 years old, has always had ad/hd and been treated with medicine. he started having chest pains in March, was took of the med and went thru the EKG and everything else and was fine. the dr wouoldn't put him back on his ad/hd med and sent him to a therapist. the child has always been very emotional, scared, nervous wreck all the time. the therapist diagnosed him with GAD which was what was causing the chest pains (he has anxiety attacks) and the Psychiatrist would have to be the one to give him med for it. he never got to see the Psychiatrist (long waiting list) and the therapist left and my son HATES the new one. I'm taking hm back to his reg DR tomo. to see if he can give him something until we find a new psychiatrist. he has been unbearable he is sooooo moody wants to argue every minor detail of everything. it is a constant battle over something at all times. he started middle school this year, is having a really hard time with the adjustment. cries alot gets angry very easy, is very panicy over the silliest things (to me anyway there silly) but to him there horrible. what can be given to a child that age that could help
 
The only medication that I can think of that they use for children his age with ADHD and anxiety is Buspirone (Buspar). Why is his Psychiatrist the only one who can prescribe a medication for his anxiety?
 
his dr wants the psychiatrist to be the prescriber. were going back in the morning and if he can't do something i'm finding another dr. there is no sense in a child living this way and he can't tell us exactly what is bothering him. and i'm finding a new psychiatrist hopefully his dr can recommend someone tomorrow. there just isn't that many here.
 
Well, that might be because Buspar, as well as antidepressants are probably not
 
how does it work for them? do they also take ad/hd medicine or does Buspar help both? I took buspar years ago and it really helps.
 
I believe both children take Adderall for ADHD. As far as I know the medications (Adderall and Buspar) are working for them.
