My brother and his wife/my sister-in-law have a 3 year old girl, well my niece in other words. Anyways my SIL never lets me do anything to my niece. I sometimes want to pick out what she wears, what she eats, what she does, but my SIL always says no. She never lets me have the decision, it's always what she wants. Ok I understand that she's the mom, but still I'm the aunt, doesn't that count for anything? I let her marry my brother, and in return this is how she treats me? I want some say in my niece's life too, why is my SIL shutting me out? I know my niece isn't my kid, and that she's her kid, but I'm still family. It's not like I'm trying to take over as the mom, I just want things my way sometimes. My SIL is too controlling of a mother, do you think that's bad?
Oh I forgot to ask, how do I get my SIL to let me make some decisions about my niece?

Well I personally could careless and I crack-up at the fact that you say YOU let her marry your brother LMAO! So anyways, I wouldn't care if my SIL picked out my kids clothes...cause obviously I buy there clothes, so it wouldn't matter what there wore...unless we were going some where particular and they needed to wear something special...other than that I wouldn't care...also, ummm the food thing, would just depend...are you trying to give her junk food? Cause that would piss me off, if my kids hadnt eaten real food and you wanted to fill her up with crap...but other than that, I could careless!

You let her marry your brother? Somehow I don't see that as your decision. She could have very easily married him with out your approval.

And, for what it's worth, no one does anything *to* a preschooler. They do things *with* a preschooler. How about rather than finding things you can do to her like she's a doll or something, find things she'll let you do with her "I was thinking maybe we can all go to the park/zoo/out to eat today. What do you think?"
