what is/isn't premature.? My mothers parents lived long lives. Her father lived from 1899-1999, dying at 99, and her mother lived from 1902-1990, living 88 years. Mother, however, lived from 1927-2006 living to be only 78. I say that because of the major difference in the ages at death between my mother and the parent who lived closer to her age (her mother) that mother's death was premature. My sister says that mother lived a long life and despite her parents living far longer that mother did not die prematurely. Also, considering that many people live far longer than 78 years, that is not that long of a life.

I would define a Premature death as unnaturale. Premature death would include accidental death, murder, or suicide. This would not include natural death from diseases like heart disease or cancer.

"Premature" death refers to a loss of life before one has a chance to experience life's milestones, such as high school graduation; college; or anything that would indicate that dreams were unfulfilled. Premature death usually does not refer to persons who have at least had opportunities to experience college and/or military service, marriage, children, careers, etc. Whether or not they took part in these things is not the issue; the issue is whether they had the opportunity. If at 78 your mother had a dream of going bungee-jumping, or climbing Mt. Everest, or starting her own business, or taking a trip to a place to which she had never before been, then, PERHAPS it could be said that she died prematurely. But she is considered to have had a long, full life, and therefore did not die prematurely, even though her parents lived longer.

Years of potential life lost best describe the Premature Death. Since 65 years is an average life expectancy, premature death is defined as death at an age less
Than 65 years. Which is again tends to some major cause such as accident etc.

On this argument I would say your sister is closure to the actual definition of premature death
