My Sidekick won't tell me I have a message?

I put my phone on silent once and I switched it back to the normal setting and now for some reason it wont play any of my message tones (notification tones) when I get a text message. Someone please help, I hate being this tied to my phone just because it won't play the stupid tone when it's supposed to
