My Siamese fighting fish spends all day at the bottom of the bowl and...

...struggles to swim. How can I help him? I've had my fish for just over two years. The past week or so he stays on the bottom of the fish bowl all the time and struggles to get to the top to eat. What causes him to do this and is there anything I can do to make him better?

Well 2 years in a bowl is about all you're going to get.
You need a Five gallon heated and filtered tank to keep a Betta live for long. The causes can include but are not limited to, tiny tank, unfiltered, unheated that make your Betta's immune system crash.

They're not short lived. They can live 5-7 years and up to 10 in the right conditions. My oldest is 8 years old and 4 months.

he is dyeing because you dont give him the proper tank size. bettas can not live in bowls. they need 5 gallons minimum filtered and heated.

2-3 years is the typical life span of a betta in a bowl if you do weekly water changes and stuff. not much you can do anymore. he might live if you get him a 2 or 3 gallon fish tank w/ filter and heater. i dont think hell survive though.

5 is recommended, but people with bowls don't usually jump to 5 gallon tanks just like that.
