my security light on my dashboard on a 91 nissan 300zx came on and i dont know

why?!?!? its flashing ? its flashing with the car being off....i just noticed it yesturday. car is running fine but once i turn it off the security light comes on, flashing on the dashboard....can i turn it off? what made it come on? and is something wrong?
