My school doesn't have a guidance counselor and i need college help?

I have a lot of questions about the application process and stuff and i go to a really small private school that doesn't help you at all when it comes to college stuff. I know you can hire an education consultant but i was hoping there might be someone or somewhere to go to get these questions answered that wouldn't cost. I contacted the guidance counselor of the public school of the town that i live in and she wasn't helpful, saying they barely had enough time to help the kids that go to their school, let alone having time for a kid (me) who doesn't even go there.

So...long story short, should i just insist that the public schools counselor helps me or is there another option/ (Google hasn't been very helpful either lol)
