I have a roommate in college that is really sweet and is a hard worker, but when she seems me walk through the door she instantly starts ranting about how this guy she's dating (but no officially dating) hasn't texted her back yet, and he probably hates her and will go back to his ex (no matter how many times he says he won't), and how her teachers are dumb and probably hate her, and how her mom says she can't do anything right and probably hates her, etc. etc. I try to be sympathetic and listen but at this point she's been ranting to me about the SAME THINGS for the last 3 WEEKS and it's driving me nuts. When she goes on her tangents I stress out since I want to help but can't do anything other than offer her advice (which I did, and she took it, but she still rants), so I have to stand there for almost an hour at times and be a good listener.
All of this brings back memories of my mom bitching me out for things, so then I stress out more. Plus I was already stressed over school. And it doesn't help that I can handle a certain amount of stress until I start emotionally eating. It's my bad habit. And it's getting to me because I've gained 5 lbs since I've moved into this dorm!!! -.- How do I get this girl to solve her own problems and leave me alone? I've done all I can at this point.
