My road bike will not fit on my trainer, what piece do I need to make the bike fit?

My cross bike will fit on the trainer but the new road bike will not set on there correctly. The dealer had a thing that looked like a pin that went into his rear wheel that made his fit but i'm not sure what he had. Any ideas on what I can do to make it work? Thanks.
 
Most trainers will come with a quick release skewer that you want to use instead on the normal one that is on your bike. They are bigger and made stronger.
