My rear hub on my bike is making a knocking noise what should i do?

For some reason my rear hub on my BMX bike is making a knocking sound. My first thought is that i blew the bearings or something but im not sure. The bike is still rideable but im afraid of what might happen if it breaks for good. Does anyone know what might be the problem??
