So, he's been to the vet and was treated for mites and such this past Thursday. He was scratching his fur out and before he was treated he scratched a very nasty place on his right shoulder. The vet told me to put neosporin on it so I did. I would hear him screeching recently and then I realized why he was doing that. I believe because th wound is itchy when it's healing makes him scratch it, so he keeps reopening it and making it worse.
I tried to wrap gauze with a nonstick pad around his shoulder area and he is too afraid of it to let me (I tried for 20 minutes and I was gentle and tried to distract and calm him, but still he kept getting away from me). I don't know how to keep him from scratching it. I'm very worried he may end up with a permanent wound this way. Any help is appreciated thank you
Also, he is the only Rat in the cage and is 2 months old and appears quite healthy, aside from the wound. He has another in the middle of his back and his head but leaves those alone, it's only the large one he scratches a lot. .
