My ps3 wont download anything whatsoever, what can i do?

I installed the new update version 3.56 but when I search for a new update it says that their is a new update but its the same version, I tried downloading the update again but it takes like 20 min. to download 1%. It'll download demos and add-on content. But it wont download game updates and videos. I have my PS3 connected with an ETHERNET cable to my router. Someone please help me, my PS3 came with a 1yr. warranty when I bought it last September but the thing is I don't want to send it in to SONY but if i have to I will, please and thank you to those who help
