my ps3 controller lights keep on flashing rapidly?

my ps3 controller light are flashing fast, i tryed chargeing it over night but it just keeps flashing and does hook up to my ps3 how do i fix it??
 
try turning off the controller via ps button then turning it back on. if that doesnt work, put the connector cable into the controller and wait for 5 seconds and press the ps button, then disconnect the cable.
