My Pontiac Grand Am Turned On When I Started It And About 15 seconds Later It Shut Off?

I drive a 96 Pontiac Grand Am V6 automatic. I know it's not the battery because when someone with a larger vehicle gave me a jump, the car turned on and 15 seconds later it died again and I took the battery to autozone and they said the battery was fine.

If anyone has had the same experience with their car, please let me know what it could be. I haven't had my car for that long and this is pretty devistating.

Thank You In Advance For The Response

okay its hard to tell what your problem is with out me seeing it and seeing how the car acts while its one for those 15 seconds or how it dies but with sitiuations like these its sounds like one of 3 main issues

one, have auto zone check your altinator...it might be running out of juice, or you can test it when you turn on your car disconnect your battery terminals while the car is running, if it stays running your altinator is good, if it shuts off...time to update!

two, could be ignition problem, do a tune up to it, change ur plugs/wires/ignition cap and rotor/pcv valves etc....see if that helps

three, could be fuel delivery problem, might be a bad fuel pump or a vacuume leak somewhere, that one is hard to find out with out checking the pump itself..

Hi There I Had This Issue On My Grand-Am And It Turned Out To Be The Transmission Overflow Valve. It Was A $50 Replacement And The Car Has Been Fine Ever Since.

get a scan tool and check for a transmission code. there was a fix years ago....something to do with a harness at the valve body. autozone does code checks for free.
