my photos, give me constructive criticism please?

Let me just start by telling you that you picked two VERY difficult subjects to try to capture,... the first, with extremes in contrast, the bright sky against a backlit foreground and the second a low light situation where exposing properly for the subject is very difficult to say the least.
The ONLY way that you could successfully photograph your first picture of the sunset using film OR digital would be to shoot at least two exposures,... one for the sky and one for the foreground then, in a photo-editing program, merge the two to produce a pleasing image. You do need to know the limitations of your equipment and how to overcome those limitations to successfully photograph the subjects you chose.
Your second image, very poorly exposed but that comes with using your camera's meter to determine your exposure. The meter does what it's supposed to do and, in this picture, it turned the highlight into a neutral tone. It would have been better to overexpose this shot by nearly 1.5 stops to bring up the white... maybe even try some fill flash to expose the white.
You are learning,... these are good examples of lighting situations that most students will not master until you learn more about your camera and light.
