My photos from iPhoto can't be found in iMovie?

I downloaded some pictures on my iMac into the iPhoto. But when I search for it when I want to put the pictures on iMovie, I can't find where it is anywhere! Help?
 
Are they in jpeg file format or something else?
Perhaps it's a file compatibility issue.
Otherwise try dragging a copy of the photo onto your desktop and import from there.
