my Panasonic lumix TZ10 will only record to built in memory, even when i have a memory card in it!!?

even though i have a memory card in my panasonic lumix TZ10 it doesnt pick it up and will onyl record to inbuilt memory. i have tried many different memory cards belonging to me and others and they are all compatable. then suddenly it will fix itself for a few weeks, then revert to only built in memory.

why would this happen and how do i fix it?
