My old game wont work on my new computer?

I recently got Final Fantasy VII for the PC because i played it when i was a kid and its very nostalgic. Unfortunately, it wont run at all and the screen is pitch black. I have a somewhat new Gateway desktop with Windows Vista and this game came out for PC in 1997.

I know what your probably thinking, "Its like putting a record in a CD player". Im just hoping that someone who reads this might know a way to make it playable?
