my Nokia 6310 just shuts down on me after I have entered the security code?

could you please let me know if i need a new battery or if I am entering the wrong security code ( I have not changed it so I am putting 12345 in )
I have also not used the phone in over a year so do i just need to leave it on charge overnight or something????????
