I have a nikon D40x which worked perfectly before, but recently it will not upload photos onto the computer.
It will take them fine and i can view al the photos i have taken on the camera.
i have tried using the lead and the memory card, the lead has no response at all and using the card; i can see there is a memory card inserted but when i click on it the computer asks me to insert a card.
i have even bought a new card but i am having exactly the same problem!
is it a setting on the camera? help!!!
I'm not sure how to reply to answers but thankyou for your help.
i used to just drag them over to a new file, but when i go on computer and try to go into the sd file, it says to insert a disk. and on the odd occasion i get into the file it's empty..?

It seems that your Auto-Play was shut off on your computer.

Just use your computer skills and use your file manager to drag and drop the images from the memory card to your computer.

Those of us who have been using digital media for years, long ago stopped copying our image files from the camera, but use the much faster card reader, either the one that is part of our computer or a USB 2.0 card reader that can be purchased for under $10

Basically you open the file folders on you memory card using My Compute or Find and then just copy everything over to your computer (to a new file folder you have named for the subject or simply the date you shot the images)

It might be something wrong with the computer if that's what is saying it can't read the card. I just use a card reader, I don't bother with the usb to the camera. I find it works much better.
