My new male beta fish?

I just got a male beta fish today and I was wondering what i can put in his bowl that is suitable. he just looks bored.
its a small bowl, only a half gallon (which is what the pet store recommended)

OTHER THAN A FAKE PLANT! what else is there...?
so this might be too late, but the tank is actually one gallon. is that too small, still?
 
my mom got a beta fish before and what we did is we put those fake colorful pebbles at the bottom of the bowl and we also put a plant that floated on the top.
 
it's to small that's why he's bored . 2.5 gallon minimum. try to add decorations and switch it up every once in a while. get a mirror and let him flare at his reflection. anything to keep him entertained for a little bit.
