I just got a low mileage h22a jdm motor put in my 99 prelude and the vtec works 1 out of every 10 times that i get into vtect rpm range. and when it doesnt work as soon as i get to 6000 the engine hits like a limiter and seizes up in a non damaging way where as when the vtec does work it kicks in and takes me straight to 8000rpm till i shift. I know everyone will say "take it back to the mechanic" but I have and he said vtec is fine and i highly doubt when he test drives it he really TESTS it like you need to even though ive told him vtect starts at 5200. does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong that I could maybe suggest to him that he looks at? and yes there is plenty of oil in it. the check engine light is on because i need a new knock sensor that hes gonna put in but thats it. anything experience helps thanks!!
