My Mother In Law's right leg swells up from the thigh & all the way down to the

ankle...What could it be? ? She is 64 years old and is overweight. Her leg swells up every day and it gets bruises too...What can cause this?
She doesn't want to go to the Doctor....
My husband told me that he will take her to the emergency later today even if she doesn't want to go.
