My mother-in-law has got to where she asks me about my mother who has been dead for 23 years and my mother -in-law knows this ...her doctor says we are just gonna have to live with it, I don't understand that. Can you help?

My grandfather has been like that for over 10 years now. It's not always Alzheimers, because that is accompanies by a slew of other symptoms that my grandpa thankfully does not have.

It just means the person's brain is deteriorating. It's true that there is nothing that can be done to reverse this, unfortunately. You and your family will have to live with it. There are certain things that can be done to make it easier for everyone, such as trying to find the affected person a routine, or a repetitive activity to keep them and their brain busy.

I have heard that Ronal Reagan, who became very forgetful near the end of his life, would constantly clean the swimming pool in the backyard. The family would apparently rethrow all the leaves in the pool when he's done just so he can get back to it.

Not sure that's the best remedy but any physical or mental activitiy can help.

From what you have said the doctor seems very vague and unhelpful. did the doctor not give a reason for this? get a second opinion. My granny has dementia and my other granny had alzheimers which sounds like what your mother in law may have.

go back to doc and ask for a second opion i think she might have dementia or alzchimers which or both memory problems.its not easy looking after someone with these problems because later on she wont know who u are or your names.hope things get sorted.i work with ppl with these problems xxx

well Alzheimer's can be setting in there are some medicines specially for that just research them
