The local authority say she will have to pay all of the care home costs because she is a home owner-the fees are over £670 a week.
Has anyone got round this problem and actually succeeded in getting the local authority to pay something toward the cost.
My husband's family are upset because the house was what their father worked for all his life-and he wanted his family to inherit it.
He died 20 years ago
Many thanks

Is it a private home?
Can she not go into a hospital unit ?
My father in law was hospitalised here and we didn't have to pay.
I know a friend of mine whose Mum went into private care but her pension covered her fees.
I don't really know.
It seems an awful lot to have to fork out.
I would go to your local social worker to find out other options.

No sadly - its rather unfair too.

Had she lived in a council house and claimed benefits all her life she would have exactly the same care for free.
