my monitor "whites out" when playing games and I have to restart computer?

My computer is less than 2 weeks old and a few times my monitor completely whites out. This is when playing games. There is no access to anything...nothing responds to keyboard entries..I have to manually shut down and restart. What is causing this? I'm using Vista.
