My goldfish has been a bit sick lately. It seems to have outgrown it's tank again and the next size is too expensive for us. It's now not eating, it just swims through the food with it's mouth closed. My mom says, every time the fish looks even a little bit ill "I want to throw it out in the creek before it dies. At least it'll have a chance there." Is that a good idea? I don't much like the thought of it, but if it's what's best for the fish, maybe it would be okay.
Also, every time I say I don't know or I don't think it's a good idea, she makes me feel I'm guilty like I'm selfish for not wanting to just throw it out and that I don't care about it. I love my fish, if that's selfish then fine. But I just don't know what to do.
When we got the fish, we didn't know it would grow to be this huge. It was taken from an elderly woman who never fed her goldfish and it was a tiny little thing in a fishbowl. All the other fish with it had died. (She had 3 before.) People who come to visit us often remark that our fish is the biggest goldfish they've ever seen.
