My mom is having a flashing in her eyes?

She says its everwhere she looks all the sudden. Could it be something she ate? She said she had it a long time ago once and the doctor said it was chinese food syndrome or something but we don't know. There is no pain or anything and it's only 1 eye. What is going on?!
 
I had the same problem not too long ago.

it could be detached retina, so she should go to see an eye doctor to get it checked.

but it could just be a type of migraine.
you see flashing lights, but you don't get the pain.
