my mobile phone has a dead battery any suggestions to get it up and running?

This was my old mobile phone (one year old), when i got my new phone i kept it as a standby phone, never used it and forgot to recharge the battery..........now the battery is dead and even if i connect it to the charger then it won't get charged...................any suggestion people to get it up and running
