my mac book pro bluetooth never work?

i have had my mac book pro for about 6 months now. i have never been able to send files via bluetooth from my fone to my laptop. i can send stuff from my laptop to anywhere else, but not from a phone to my computer. it says "failed to send to ___ computer" and i dunno why, how do i fix this??? it happens with my friends pro as well
